Most data recovery jobs require the donor drives for parts, due to mechanical hard drive failure. Data recovery technicians use the uniquely compatible HDD-donors for the part replacement. Similar head set or electronic board may be transplanted from the other drive if they have met the strict matching criteria such as the head electrical resistance, firmware, date code, country of manufacture, PCB type, serial number and much more.

Warning: Do not try to attempt repairing and/or replacing any parts on the drive on your own, or at the computer service shops, that are neither equipped nor skilled to carry on such task. Any intrusion in such places to the drive's insides will bring the data storage to permanent unrecoverable condition. Open hard drives are incredibly hard to recover, not to mention you may be refused of the service or be charged the tampered hard drive fees.
