Damaged Western Digital WD Blue WD10EZEX-00KUWA0 1Tb from AMT Asset Management, Boca Raton, Florida

HDD failed after Power Surge. I had to order a similar hard drive in order to get a replacement circuit board for the one that was damaged during the power surge. I replaced the external circuit board on the drive and once I connected it to my computer and powered it on, the clicking sound disappeared. My BIOS recognizes that there is a drive present but it cant ID it correctly. Apparently the internal firmware on the drive has been corrupted.

It's taken from an external SATA enclosure, as we cannot access the data and tried to connect it to the different computer as a slave, and then we also tried to put it in the different enclosure - hard disk is not responsive, and we do need all of its content recovered and backup to another hard drive.

Broken Western Digital My Book for Mac WDBAAG0030HCH 3Tb external from Oklahoma City USA

Recently my WD MyBook external hard drive had stopped working. The drive would appear to start mounting or otherwise be recognized by the system, but then seem to hang and not be recognized.
This problem started happening after the system had been using the drive successfully for a while, and had performed numerous Time Machine backups to it.
The local technicians took the drive's enclosure apart to test the drive and enclosure separately.
No problems with the drive's enclosure itself were detected, but the drive failed all tests. There must be a firmware fault or internal disk damage.

This external hard drive has accidentally been overloaded with data beyond its capacity (when the drive was 'on screen') so that the name of drive ('FINAL FILES') must have been over-written. I don't believe that a large amount of 'overload' data have been added, but what has been added is enough to make the drive unable to be opened by the DELL 'Latitude' laptop computer which has been used to add the data in the first place. All corrupted and deleted files must be restored back to their original state.

I'm very glad that you could help us with our problem. All turned out very nice and our appreciation to your dedicated work is grand.

Following your advice, I did not risk with data safety on squeaking drive (quiet but distinctive clicks). The damaged drive was carefully extracted from laptop and never was powered on anymore since then. Now I am waiting for your verdict from your clean lab-room. Files of most interest are PDF and Microsoft documents. Personal pictures and videos are important too. You may skip downloaded movies and mp3 files.

90+% recovered, other 10% are partially corrupted. Very satisfied with the recovery result.

First symptoms before the final crash were slowing down computer with occasional freezes. I tried to safe my work files on spare disk, but the documents turned to corrupted files. When the technical support specialist has tried to revive the computer, the drive starts making the strange sounds. No further attempts to start the drive (or open it) were ever done.

All my files were recovered.

A hard disk drive failure occurred when the running computer case was moved and tilted. I did not realize it was running. Anyway, it was not a sharp impact to the drive and the data must be recoverable. I know how much problem for you can make physically damaged internal parts to the platters, so I did not overuse the hard drive by running long disk-test utilities. Actually, the drive spins OK, but inaccessible for any of the hard drive testing programs.

Amazingly, all my important files are recovered and perfectly intact.

I have been using a My Book 3Tb for photos and Photoshop projects. The storage was always disconnected safely, but three weeks ago for some reason it did not work. Computer with connected external box slows right down. When I click on 'Computer' or go to 'Disk management; to access the drive it freezes completely and will not come back on until I unplug the drive.

After internal components repairs were done, the project and other files were successfully retrieved from the drive.
