What can I do to protect my Data and minimize my chances of losing Data?
To avoid premature drive failure:
- Avoid heat and vibration. Beware of static. Back up your data regularly
All drive components, both electronic and mechanical are sensitive to the heat and vibration. Keep your computer in a dry, controlled environment that is clean and dust-free. Set up your computer in an area with very little traffic to ensure that it does not get bumped or kicked. The heat and/or vibration are two of the leading causes of hard drive failure.
- Run Safe Disk Utilities integrated into your Operating System
Minor problems with file system can be eliminated or fixed with disk checking utilities, such as Microsoft Windows 10 CHKDSK command (or its predecessor Scandisk in Windows 9x) that can examine the hard drive for logical inconsistencies and detect and temporary isolate damaged (bad) sectors on the disk platters.
Defragmenting program is another useful disk utility (such as Defrag) that arranges the data files in optimized order. Fragmentation happens when a large file has to be divided into smaller pieces to be written (piece by piece) in few different locations (free gaps between other files). Defragmentation process is to combine all fragments to a single file unit and, when possible write it to the same track (to ensure that there is at most one seek per file). Optimized file system reduce mechanical load on the drive mechanism and speed up the file reading.
“Error Checking” and “Optimize and defragment the drive” utility can be started from Windows 10 file explorer, as shown on the picture above. - Anti-Virus Software
Use anti-virus software and update it at least four times per year. - Use an uninterrupted power supply (UPS)
In the event of a surge of electricity, blackout, brownout or lightning strike, a UPS can protect your system from the electrical damage. A UPS is also a backup power source that keeps your computer running for a short period of time, giving you the opportunity to properly save your work and shut it down, avoiding the potential data loss.
- Be cautious when using recovery utilities
Use diagnostic and repair utilities with a caution. Verify that your utility software is compatible with your operating software. Never use the file recovery software if you suspect an electrical or mechanical drive failure. Always make an undo disk when you allow a utility make changes to your hard drive.
Diligent maintenance such as anti-virus scanning, sensible backup procedures, off-site storage of mission critical data, along with the knowledge of your limitations, should prevent you from becoming one of the many casualties of data loss. - If you suffer a data loss
Please, contact a data recovery expert immediately. The most important thing is not to attempt any repairs on your own. Trust your data to the engineers who have the experience, expertise and tools to recover you data without damaging your system.

After reboot the hard drive lost files, Seagate Backup Plus Portable
I've had this Agent Go for about a year and now it's not recognized by any computer, actually I tried it on quiet few, and then it started making clicks. In Staples where I took it I was recommended to data recovery by Seagate, and they said data is recoverable and quoted me for $2,300 - I would love to get my files back as I need them desperately, but cannot afford such luxury. If only you could help me, your flat rate of $490 probably the fairest price so far.
What a relief I had when recieved the recovery report from you with all details of recovered files. I was reviewing it and my heart was about to jump off, you made me so happy. The best data recovery company with the best prices in GTA - no questions! All the best and many great recoveries to technical department. Leslie T. Toronto, Ontario, Canada
